USA No. 1 Tim Howard accepts that Brad Friedel did not try to block his move to Manchester United in 2003, after having made that very claim in his autobiography, The Keeper, which was published last week. Upon hearing about the allegation, Friedel told ESPN that the Everton goalkeeper’s claim was “complete garbage” and demanded an apology.
In his book, Howard accuses Friedel of trying to block his move from the Metrostars toManchester United by refusing to sign a statement on his behalf that would have helped him get the required UK work permit. While Friedel did refuse to sign the letter, he says he never wrote to theappeals committee suggesting that Howard should not be granted a work permit.
