[SMU-WILLIAM & MARY MEN] No. 5 seed SMU returned to the quarterfinals of the  NCAA Men’s Tournament for the first time since 2005 thanks to a 1-0 winover No. 12 William & Mary.

Senior Josue Soto scored the game’s only tally in the 11th minute when RobbieDerschang stole the ball from a William & Mary defender in the corner of the field, then fed the ball to Ian Kalis at the top of the circle, where hefound Soto.

SMU freshman Juan Castillo twice had breakaways stopped by Tribe keeper Andrew McAdams.

William & Mary’s best chance came in the 81st minute when James Lofton hit the crossbar from the left side of the six-yard box.

TheMustangs travel to No. 4 North Carolina next weekend with a berth at the Men’s College Cup on the line.
