What was first believed to be a shin contusion turned out to be a broken leg. Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stuart Holden will be out of action for six weeks,according to the Premier League club’s manager Owen Coyle said on Thursday.

The U.S. international suffered the injury on a Nigel de Jong tackle during the first half of the USA’s 2-1 loss to the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Wednesday. Holden joined Bolton in January from the Houston Dynamoand had just made his EPL debut. Bolton was reported to be interested in extending Holden’s contract beyond the summer.

“It’s disappointing for Stuart because he’s come into the team anddone ever so well,” Coyle told the club’s website. “He’s a very good player, an international player and he has shown a real desire and hunger to do well for our club. The most important thing is hereturns bigger and better.”
