• Atlanta United acquired Greek international Giorgos Giakoumakis from Celtic to replace departed Josef Martinez at center forward. He was the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer with 13 goals during the 2021-22 season. After stints at six Greek clubs, the 28-year-old Giakoumakis enjoyed a breakout season in 2020-21 when he was the Dutch Eredivisie Golden Boot winner with VVV Venlo (26 goals). Said Atlanta United technical director Carlos Bocanegra, “He’s a powerful striker who loves to get in the box and score goals. He plays with a high intensity, works hard and is someone we think will help the team both in the attack and leading the line defensively.”
