Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola questioned the value of the Carabao Cup, particularly in the context of a team like his that competes in Europe.
“The prize is good when youwin another one,” he said, “but you waste a lot of energy.”
He added that he wasn’t complaining even though it meant City played midweek this weekend — West Brom — and will have to playmidweek next week — Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday.
“For the managers it is a lot of wasted energy,” he said, “but we knew that before, so it is not a complaint inthose terms. If we have to play we have to play.”
