Carlos Cordeiro got involved with U.S. Soccer in 2007 when he was appointed to its Board of Directors after being nominated by then-federation president Sunil Gulati. (California legislator Fabian Nunez and former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala followed to complete the first trio of independent directors.)
