[WPS] Danesha Adams, who was named U.S. Soccer’s Young Female Athlete of the Year in 2008 but had only one goal in twoseasons in WPS, was the unlikely hero of Women’s Professional Soccer’s Super Semifinal, coming off the bench to score in the winner in overtime and send the Philadelphia Independence into Sunday’sfinal against FC Gold Pride with a 2-1 win at Boston.
Standing at the far post, Adams scored on a header off a cross from former UCLA teammate TinaDiMartino in the 103th minute. She was so close to post she said she thought she was going to hit her head with it. The Breakers protested that Adams’ header went off her arm and into the goal,but referee Kerry Seitz allowed the goal to stand. Replays were inconclusive.
The Breakers later had a chance to equalize, but
Like Adams, DiMartino and Henderson a former UCLA star, Lauren Cheney had put Boston aheadin the 22nd minute, but Swede Caroline Seger tied the game seven minutes later off a pass from Amy Rodriguez.
