Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain scored for Argentina, which handed Chile its thirdstraight loss in qualifying. Ecuador, for which Chivas USA midfielder Osvaldo Minda came on in the second half, moved into second place ahead of idle Colombiawith a 1-1 tie at Venezuela.
