[NASL REWIND | Week 2] The New York Cosmos’ first road match drew a capacity crowd of 7,032 at Al Lang Stadium, where the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Cosmos played to a0-0 tie. The Atlanta Silverbacks received their spring championship trophy from NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson following their 1-1 draw with the CarolinaRailHawks that left all four teams in a tie for first place with four points.
Tampa Bay keeper Diego Restrepo earned the Rowdies a share ofthe points, producing a point-blank save with his legs to deny Spanish midfielder Ayoze after 77 minutes.
“I’m very happy with the cleansheet,” said Rowdies coach Ricky Hill. “We scored seven goals last week. However, we didn’t have enough opportunities in this game as far I wasconcerned.”
— In Atlanta, striker Pedro Mendes scored his fourth goal of the year to send the Silverbacks in ahead at halftime, but defender Kupono Low headed the RailHawks level for a share of the points after the break. The game drew4,767 fans at Silverbacks Park.
— The Fort Lauderdale Strikers are now without a win in seven games after their 3-1 loss to visiting Minnesota United FC, which halted a four-gamelosing streak with the victory. Minnesota got second-half goals from forwards Max Griffin and Pablo Campos as well as anown goal to win in front of 3,295 spectators at Lockhart Stadium.
