[MLS TRANSACTIONS] Gregg Berhalter, the new head coach and sporting director of the Columbus Crew, moved fast to clear outspace on the Crew’s roster for the 2014 season, declining options on three players who began the 2013 season as starters: Brazilian defender Glauber, midfielderDanny O’Rourke and Costa Rican forward Jairo Arrieta.

Along with the retirement of Eddie Gaven, that means four starters might not be back. Berhalter told MLSSoccer.com there was a possibility that Glauber (whosuffered a season-ending knee injury in July), O’Rourke (a starter on the Crew’s MLS Cup 2008 team) and Arrieta (12 goals in two seasons) could return if their contracts were adjusted.

Three other starters — goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum, forward Dominic Oduro and defender Josh Williams — areout of contract.

Of the other three players let go — Drew Beckie and Kyle Hyland and midfielder Konrad Warzycha — only Warzycha, son of former Crew coach, played in 2013. Contract options were also declined on midfielder Matias Sanchez andforward Aaron Horton, a move that was previously announced in October
