1. Bill Palladino, the chief assistant on Coach Anson Dorrance’s women’s staff at the University of North Carolina forfour decades, is stepping down. As Carolina’s defensive coordinator, he coached teams in 1987 and 1997 when the Tar Heels posted an NCAA-record 22 shutouts. Over his tenure, UNC won 22 nationalchampionships. Palladino will continue to serve as an assistant coach with the NWSL champion North Carolina Courage.
