[DESERT DIAMOND CUP] Fielding a team that included a pair of rookies, Tommy Meyer and Bryan Gaul, in central defense, the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the New England 4-2 in a shootout to win the Desert Diamond Cup after the final ended in a 0-0 tie. Backup keeper Brian Perk saved two shots in the shootout. Real Salt Lake edged the New York Red Bulls, 1-0, for third place. The final day of the tournament drew a crowd of 10,172Saturday night.
