NBCSN averaged 536,000 viewers — its best weekday audience since the 2012 London Olympics — for Monday afternoon’sManchester United-Chelsea Premier League match.
Among Men 18-34, NBCSN’s Premier League average audience (147,000) topped all Monday sporting events – finishing 18 percenthigher than the second-most watched telecast in the demo (Cincinnati-St. Louis MLB game in primetime on ESPN).
But what stands out in the numbers the NBC Sports group sent out are theManchester United-Chelsea live streaming figures — not surprisingly, given it was a weekday afternoon event for which many viewers will have been working or otherwise unable to watch on television.(The highly prized demo of males 18-34 who are strong soccer fans will also be more inclined than other demos to watch an event via a streaming device.)
NBC Sports LiveExtra’s live stream of the match generated 3,207,658 live minutes and averaged 51.8 minutes. Both are records for EPL streaming on NBC Sports Live Extra and surpassed NBC’s two NFLpreseason games this year and every Notre Dame Football stream last season. NBC Sports Live Extra’s EPL streams require verification, while these other streams did not require verification of acable/satellite/telco subscription.
In live minutes, Manchester United-Chelsea was the second-highest NBCSN stream in NBC Sports Live Extra history, behind only Game 2 of the 2013 StanleyCup Final (3,236,341). NBC Sports Live Extra, the NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktop, mobile devices and tablets, is offered by nine of the 10 largest cable/satellite/telcoproviders.
