Houston, New England and the two New York teams notified players whether they will pick up or deny their 2017 options. Players whose options were picked up included 2016 Golden Boot winner BradleyWright-Phillips (Red Bulls) and highly regarded young Costa Rican international Ronald Matarrita (NYCFC). The Revs denied the option on Jose Goncalves, the 2013 MLS Defender of theYear.
