Good morning! Saturday’s MLS match between Real Salt Lake and LAFC in Sandy, Utah, brought back memories of other snow games of U.S. soccer lore. The most famous is the Snow Clasico, the USA’s 1-0 win over Costa Rica in World Cup qualifying, played in Commerce City, Colorado (March 22, 2013). It’s uncommon to break out orange balls simply because American soccer rarely tries to play in the winter. On top of games being increasingly impacted by heat and extreme weather in the summer, it’s a reminder how much soccer is at the mercy of Mother Nature.
