Good morning! One month before the 2024 Copa America and 25 months before the 2026 World Cup, the troubled Canada Soccer Association has found its man to coach its men’s national team. Jesse Marsch is Canada’s 23rd MNT head coach and first American. He has had a long career as a player, first under Bob Bradley at Princeton, and as a coach with the USMNT under Bradley and in MLS and Europe. He most recently was a candidate for the USMNT job that went to Gregg Berhalter and has been doing commentary work for CBS Sports. In his media role, Marsch’s rivalry with Berhalter came to the fore with his comments about Gio Reyna ahead of the Concacaf Nations League (and Berhalter’s reaction to them) in March. Marsch’s hiring will spice up the rivalry between the World Cup co-hosts as they move closer to 2026.
