Good morning! Vermont Green, one of the amateur sensations on the U.S. Open Cup’s opening night of upsets, was born during the 2020 pandemic. As SA’s Dan Woog wrote in a feature on the USL League Two team last summer, friends Matthew Wolff (a graphic designer of soccer logos and jerseys) and Patrick Infurna (a digital producer with Eintracht Frankfurt) wondered idly whether a soccer team could address climate change, among other issues. Burlington – a college town and passionate about the environment – was the ideal location for the project. It also happens to have a strong men’s college program at the University of Vermont, whose Virtue Field was packed for the 4-3 win over the pros from Lexington SC.
