Good morning! Dan Woog profiles Doug Cress, a familiar name to long-time Soccer America readers, and looks at his labor of love, the popular 1970s Soccer USA Facebook page. Doug was a prolific SA contributor during his career as a sportswriter in the 1980s and 1990s. He was later a Hollywood make-up artist and has worked for many years on conservation and animal welfare in Africa, later serving as the CEO of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Doug’s wife, Sandra, whom he met when she worked for the NASL’s Team America, is another longtime colleague, having done her MBA project at UCLA on a growing Soccer America. She was the soccer competition manager at the 1996 Atlanta Games and later worked for the Clinton Foundation on HIV/AIDS care in Africa.
