In his first start since undergoing hip surgery last year, Mike Magee scored two goals  to lead the Chicago Fire past the USL’s Charlotte Independence,3-1, in the round of 16 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. In the quarterfinals, the Fire will meet Orlando City SC, which defeated Columbus Crew SC, 2-0, before more than 13,000 fans. The PhiladelphiaUnion and Houston Dynamo also advanced after weather delays.
