Paul Holocher recalls his busiest time as a soccer coach. Fresh out of the pro game, he was 27 years old, lived in the Northern California beach town of Santa Cruz, and was coaching ages 4 to 21 all day long. “I woke up and coached the UC Santa Cruz men from 7:30-9:30,” the 52-year-old says. During the day he taught PE at Aptos Academy, a private school, and finished up coaching youngsters from 4:30-7:30 at Catalyst soccer club, a skill training club he founded with a friend in 1999. That rhythm lasted seven years.
