USA falls to Uruguay on PKs in tune-up friendly for U-20 World Cup

Defender Chris Richards  scored for the USA in a 1-1 tie with Uruguay in Poland, where both teams are preparing for the U-20 World Cup. Uruguay, which went ahead on a goal by Aboubacar Keita, won the PK shootout, 4-3.

U.S. starting XI -- Ochoa; Dest, Richards, Keita, Gloster; Cerrillo, Servania, Mendez; De La Fuente, Soto, Weah.


Uruguay, which had beaten Senegal, 2-1, in a tuneup before facing the USA, qualified for the U-20 World Cup by finishing in third place at the 2019 U-20 South American Championship in Chile behind title winner Ecuador and runner-up Argentina. Colombia took the fourth South American World Cup spot. The USA qualified as Concacaf champion.

The USA opens its U-20 World Cup campaign in Group D on Friday against Ukraine before facing Nigeria (May 27) and Qatar (May 30).
