Four days after the USA was eliminated from the World Cup, Jermaine Jones took to Instagram to criticize MLS for making it too easy for MLS players.

On Monday, he was back on Instagram for another chat. The Instagram live post, which Jones did not archive, included an endorsement of Eric Wynalda for U.S. Soccer president, nothing outof the ordinary about that.

But he also went on a rant about his move to MLS from Europe after the 2014 World Cup.

The Chicago Fire and New England Revolution were the twoteams interested in signing him, and the league held a blind draw that resultedin Jones going to New England, which he helped lead to MLS Cup 2014, where it lost to the host LA Galaxy, 2-1, in overtime.

In his Instagram post, Jones said MLS commissioner DonGarber told him it had been determined he would go to the Revs, charging that the draw was rigged. Through an MLS spokesperson, Garber “politely” turned down the opportunity to respond.

But Revs president Brian Bilello tweeted the draw was done by video conference call and he and others witnessed the draw. Ron Waxman, one of the agents who worked on the transaction, tweeted that he never for a second thought the draw was rigged.

Bilello and Jones then exchanged tweets during which they only agreed on one thing. Jones liked his time in New England, and Bilello liked having him on the Revs.

Jones, 36, moved from the Revs to Colorado in 2016. He played for the Galaxy in 2017 but has not signed for the 2018 season.

The draw was done via a video conference call. Multiple people were on the call (including me) and witnessedit.

@RevsPrez I don’t know what call you’ve been on. But the first call only Garber, Rich Motzkin and me been on. Garber told me“Jermaine you will not go to Chicago you will go to New England”. I never been on that conference call you been on that’s weird and I’m the player right

Garber has to be a magician!!! How did he know I will end up in New England in the first place? By the way Brian I had a great time in New England andI loved the fan support. But that’s not the point! I try to show fans what happens behind the doors. It’s nothing against the Revs

  1. Sounds like JJ was one of the ‘bad apples’ that Tim Howard alluded to Bruce Arena needing to get rid of to get the whole team on the same page.  JK couldn’t get rid of him–one of his German boys.  Pretty clear he has an attitude problem.

  2. The bad apple allegations is an opinion…JJ is still better at 35 yoa than most of his USMNT teammates. His on the pitch attitude doesn’t need scrutiny.
