• Tim Hankinson, who coached for more than four decades at college and pro levels in five countries, passed away on Thursday at the age of 67. His wife Yvette posted the news of his passing. He battled Adenocarcinoma, an aggressive form of cancer, for almost two years. The New Yorker was in his mid-20s when he coached the great Alabama A&M teams of the early 1980s and is one of the few Americans who coached abroad with stops at clubs in Iceland, India and Jamaica and with the U-17 national team in Guatemala. He was an early MLS employee, serving as director of player development and the first coach of MLS’s Project-40 team. He coached in MLS (Tampa Bay and Colorado), the NASL (San Antonio and Indy Eleven), USISL (Charleston and Raleigh) and USL League One (Chattanooga).
