1. Russ Sauer, who has served as U.S. Soccer’s chief outside counsel for many years, is retiring from Latham & Watkins,the California law firm where he has worked since 1980. He made the announcement in filing a motion to withdraw as U.S. Soccer’s counsel in the NASL’s antitrust suit that has entered its third year inU.S. district court in Brooklyn. He has been the chair of Latham & Watkins’ litigation & trial department in Los Angeles. The firm will continue to represent U.S. Soccer in the NASL suit. Ithas worked extensively with U.S. Soccer since former partner Alan Rothenberg became U.S. Soccer president in 1990. MLS president Mark Abbott, AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis and agent Richard Motzkin, whoheads Wasserman’s global soccer division, are all Latham & Watkins products.
