Despite a 1 p.m. kickoff in France, the Bleues’ 4-0 win over Morocco at the Women’s World Cup averaged 5.22 million viewers on network M6, its largest viewership for any kind of programming at any hour in more than a year. Interest in the tournament on French television was low for the group stage — average of 692,000 viewers per game — but has grown for the round of 16. The USA-Sweden game peaked at almost 2 million viewers on France 3 during the shootout. The record audience for a Women’s World Cup match broadcast in France is 12 million for the France-Brazil round-of-16 game four years ago.
