Two goals late in the first half eased the mounting tension of a lackluster first half and though the second half wasn’t all that much better the U.S. held the advantage built on goals bydefenders Omar Gonzalez and Eric Lichaj to beat El Salvador, 2-0, in the Gold Cup quarterfinals Wednesday in Philadelphia.
