One of the best goals in the soccer world last weekend was scored in women’s college soccer, by Brazilian-born Catarina Macario. In a 1-1 tie with Washington State, the sophomorecontrolled a high ball with her thigh, tapped it back up with her foot, and sent a bending volley from 22 yards into the far corner of the net. Macario, who had three assists in last year’s 3-2Stanford College Cup win over UCLA, scored 17 goals and 17 assists last season, and so far this season has 12 goals and five assists. She moved to San Diego from Brazil at the age of 12 and earlierthis year was called up by the U.S. U-23 national team.
