1. Tanner Tessman started — and assisted on Paxton Pomykal’s insurance goal — for FC Dallas in its 2-0 win over the PhiladelphiaUnion. It came two days after he signed a pro contract, turning down a football scholarship at Clemson University. Tessman, 18, was one of four players eligible for the 2021 U-20 World Cup to play onopening day of the MLS season. Danny Leyva, 16, started for the defending champion Seattle Sounders while Bryce Duke, 19, and Gianluca Busio, 17, came on as subs for LAFC and Sporting KC,respectively. All three teams also won. Ten others with remaining U.S. U-20 eligibility dressed, including Columbus Crew rookie Sebastian Berhalter, son of U.S. national team coach Gregg Berhalter,and D.C. United’s Kevin Paredes, the youngest player at age 16.
