”We don’t control the rights for our away matches but have talked with beIN Sport and know that they have an aggressive plan to expand distribution over the weeks and months to come. Obviously, we’d like as wide a distribution in the US as possible for our WCQ matches.”

-- U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati in response to beIN Sport's announcement that it had acquired rights to all of the USA's away qualifiers in World Cup 2014 qualifying except a possible Mexico game. The Al-Jazeera-owned sports network, which launched last week, is currently unavailable on cable. (The New York Times Soccer Blog)

Thanks to beIN sports, I'll have plenty of time to do housework, and tend to my garden and bees. Because I already can no longer watch any La Liga games. Maybe they should have devoted their abundant cash to the "aggressive plan to expand distribution" *before* blacking out half the world of soccer?

Ramon, obviously having content that people want is helpful when trying to expand. As for me, I will kick back and enjoy the matches because I have Directv.
