Patrick Agyemang has been sold to English Championship club Derby County for a Charlotte FC record fee, reported to be $8 million, plus add-ons and a sell-on percentage.
The move comes after just two and a half years in MLS for the 24-year-old Agyemang, who started his college career at D3 Eastern Connecticut State and was taken by Charlotte with the No. 12 pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft out of Rhode Island.
Agyemang scored 22 goals in 72 games across all competitions for Charlotte, but it was his play on the USMNT for which he made a name. He’s the only U.S. player to play in all 12 international matches (nine starts) in 2025 and has scored five goals.
“I’ve always wanted to take that next step and to be in a position to help myself and better my career,” he said. “This step, going into the Championship and being around such passionate fans and a good group of guys is something I felt is needed for my step. I’m expecting [the Championship] to be very tough. You’re playing a lot of games so I know it will be tiring at times but it’s all about how you deal with it.”
