The European Union’s Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Friday confirmed that UEFA President Michel Platini has appealed against the provisional 90-day ban he was handedby FIFA that has kept him out of the presidential race for soccer’s scandal-plagued governing body. Both Platini and FIFA President Sepp Blatter were handed 90-day bans inOctober over a $2 million payment the latter made to the former for unspecified work with no contract or paper trail. FIFA’s ethics committee decided to ban the pair while it investigates theincident, but Platini, who had been a candidate for FIFA’s presidential election on Feb. 26, filed an “urgent” appeal to CAS against FIFA’s suspension of him, with the hopethat if the suspension is overturned he can re-enter the presidential race.
