Egypt’s Mexican coach Javier Aguirre was fired hours after it lost, 1-0, to Bafana Bafana in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cairo. Thembinkosi Lorchscored the gamewinner in the 85th minute for South Africa, which reached the knockout stage of the 24-team tournament despite losing to Ivory Coast (1-0) and Morocco (1-0) in the group stage. Threepoints from a 1-0 win over Namibia were enough for South Africa to advance as a third-place team. Egypt, for which Mo Salahscored twice in the group stage, had beaten Zimbabwe (1-0),DR Congo (2-0) and Uganda (2-0).
