[TEXAS A&M-UC IRVINE] Texas A&M outshot UC Irvine by 21-5 but couldn’t score as the No. 22 Aggies fell to the No. 20 Anteaters, 1-0, in a match playedin 100-degree heat before 1,574 fans at Ellis Field.

“When you outshoot a team 4-1, you’ve got a good example of ‘everything counts,’” A&M coach GGuerrieri said. “The other team gets a chance, we don’t do everything we can to keep it out of the back of the net, it goes in. We get so many chances and we just don’t quite finish them off. It’s one of those things that you wish you had another chance, but you don’t. You’ve just got to learn from it and get better as we play a team that’s probably better than this one in Florida onFriday night.”

UCI netted the lone goal of the match in the eighth minute when Lexi Kopf scooted a sideways shot into the frame on a pass fromDana Sanderlin.

Freshman goalie Jennifer Randazzo had a stellar day, saving seven shots. PreseasonAll-American CoCo Goodson was force all over the defensive third of the field to slow the Texas A&M attack.

The Aggies had a pair of primeopportunities in the second half. Freshman Bianca Brinson had a breakaway shot saved by Randazzo. Minutes later, an Aggie corner kick curved right into the boxand was headed off the crossbar. The Aggie attack continued throughout the game down to the final seconds as a long free kick was blasted right on Randazzo as time expired.
