Taylor Leach, a two-time first-team All-SEC defender at the University of South Carolina, will continueher quest to become a pro soccer player at the Houston Dash. Leach, who helped the Gamecocks reach the quarterfinals of the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Tournament, was not selected in the NWSLCollege Draft but she was immediately invited to join the Dash for pres-season training in March. She has been chronicling for Soccer America the transition from college to the pros.
Now that the draft has come and gone, the excitement of waiting to hear one’s name called is over. The draft was very competitive, and each team went backand forth with various trades and deals. Although I was not drafted, I wasn’t the slightest bit upset because I knew there were a number of tremendous players being picked up due to the highlevel of competition. Once the draft ended, I began to envision my early thoughts of possibly playing overseas. My only focus at the time was, where will I be playing?
