Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says his club was cheated out of a berth in the UEFA Champions League final, blaming Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir for theexit to Atletico Madrid on the away goal rule after the 2-1 win in the second leg.
“We are angry,” Rummenigge said. “Atletico’s goal was offside and the foul by [Javi] Martinez on[Fernando] Torres, which led to the penalty, was outside of the area. We feel robbed. I think our team played well and deserved to win.”
