Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo have been announced as the three finalists for the 2014/15 UEFA Best Player in Europe award(formerly known as the European Footballer of the Year or Ballon d’Or award). Ronaldo, who picked up the trophy last year, was nominated after scoring 61 goals in 54 appearances last season, inaddition to winning the 2014/15 UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. Messi and Suarez, meanwhile, formed a fearsome attacking partnership with Neymar that helped inspire Barcelona to adomestic double as well as the UEFA Champions League title in Luis Enrique’s first season in charge. The winner will be announced at the UCL group-stage draw on August 27.
