The Champions League group stage concluded on Wednesday with good news for Chelsea and Arsenal.
The London clubs, both in danger of not advancing, won their games to reach the group stage. Chelseabeat Porto, 2-0, to win its group, while Arsenal beat Olympiakos, 3-0, in Greece thanks to a hat trick from Frenchman Olivier Giroud.
Three English clubs — Manchester United, Chelseaand Arsenal — joined three from Spain and two from Germany and Italy in the final 16. One team each from France, Portugal, Ukraine, Russia, Belgium and the Netherlands moved into the knockoutstage.
