[AMERICANS ABROAD] U.S. national team captain Carlos Bocanegra finally completed his move from Rennes to French rivalSt. Etienne in a transferred deal valued at around $650,000.

A deal to move Bocanegra to St. Etienne in the winter never materialized.

He played 64 games in two seasons atRennes, mostly at left back.

He previously spent five years in England at Fulham.

St. Etienne was once the dominant team in French soccer. Its success in the mid-1970s madethe chant “Allez les Verts” (“Go Greens”) a rallying cry for the rebirth of French soccer.

In recent years, St. Etienne has struggled. The Verts finished 17th in the 20-team Ligue 1 in2009-10.
