FIFA president Sepp Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini were both banned from taking part in all soccer activities for eight years for their roles in the payment of $2 millionPlatini received from FIFA in 2011. The payment, supposedly for work done as a FIFA adviser years earlier, was not found to have been a bribe, but Blatter and Platini were both found to have violatednumerous parts of the FIFA code of ethics. The suspensions take effect immediately but are expected to be appealed.
