Less than a day after Jurgen Klinsmann was fired as U.S. national team coach, Bruce Arena was hired to replace him. Arena, the LA Galaxy’s head coach for the last nine seasons, had thelongest stint as national team coach, serving for eight years (1998-2006) and leading the team to the World Cup finals in 2002 and 2006. The USA’s quarterfinal appearance in 2002 is its best since1930.
