[ENGLAND] Fabio Capello says he won’t quit as the England national team coach despite its 4-1 loss to Germany on Sunday– its worst loss ever to Germany and its worst loss ever at the World Cup.
Capello has a $9 million-a-year contract that either the English FA or he can terminate after the World Cup.
England finished with only one win and three goals in four games. The last time England won only one game at the World Cup was in 1962. Its three goals were the fewest it has scored sinceits first appearance at the World Cup in 1950 when it scored only two points.
“I want to speak with the chairman [Club England chairman Sir DavidRichards] and then decide my future,” said Capello. “I need to know whether the FA have confidence in me or not.”
He might as well quit. Leaving Walcott at home was dumb. His defense looked slow, old — simply pathetic. Heskey, Upson, Ledley, Johnson: Why are these players even on the team? Gerrard and Lampard haven’t looked good together…ever. They need a coach brave enough to sit one of those two and play the other. I feel sorry for Rooney, he was poorly used by Capello. He should go ahead and quit.

England should be looking for new players instead of a new coach. If Upson is the fourth best centerback with an English passport and a man with only one knee is the third best, your team is in trouble. Same if your second choice goalkeeper is nicknamed “Calamity James”. England has a few great players (who did not step and perform… AGAIN!)and a lot of pretty good ones. That’s not going to get it done at the international level.

Before the next major tournament, England would also do well to naturalize a few left footed players, since the don’t seem to be able to cultivate any of their own.

Possibly play and develop a few more English players in the EPL and not run after all foreign players with big bucks. How do good English players develop if there is no place to play. Their team is old and needs new talented blood.
