Embolo follows Xhaka out of Swiss squad over fake Covid documents

Atlanta United striker Breel Embolo was left out of the Switzerland squad for the upcoming Nations League matches after being sanctioned for using forged Covid-19 test certificates during the pandemic. He is the second Swiss star this week to be dropped. Captain Granit Xhaka was omitted after he confessed to using a fake certificate to avoid a mandatory vaccination.

Pochettino, Cherundolo begin USMNT-Olympic collaboration

USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino, who resides in London, and Germany-based U.S. Olympic team coach Steve Cherundolo began their collaboration this week at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Fayetteville, Georgia, ahead of Saturday’s USMNT friendly against Peru in Orlando. Twelve of the 28 players Pochettino called in for his first post-2026 World Cup games are eligible for the 2028 Olympic tournament, an under-23 competition.

U.S. Under-17 Women’s World Cup roster

Head coach Ciara Crinion named the 21 players who will represent the USA at the Under-17 Women’s World Cup Oct. 17-Nov. 7 in Morocco. Loradana Paletta, who plays in NYCFC’s boys academy, is the youngest at age 15. Back with the team is forward Carolina Reyna, who will become the third member of her family to play in a U-17 World Cup after older brother Gio (2019) and her father Claudio (1989 when it was still a U-16 tournament).

Zidane admits emotion on eve of first game as France coach

France legend Zinedine Zidane will take charge of Les Bleus for the first time in their UEFA Nations League clash with Turkey. “I feel even more emotional than I did ahead of my first game as a player. Today I feel immense emotion at being able to be here in charge of France,” Zidane said ahead of Friday’s Group A1 game at the home of Kocaelispor in northern Turkey.
