The Washington Spirit got a late penalty kick by Diana Matheson to earn a 1-1 tie with FC Kansas City and snap a five-game skid in new coach Mark Parson‘sfirst game in charge.
“It was a positive start,” Matheson said. “We’re in a position where we can build off this.”
Kansas City has opened the scoring in the 55th minute on a goal by Erika Tymrak, her fourth of theseason.
“I was really pleased with the performance, especially given our missed chances in the first half and going down in the second,”Parsons said. “With how our confidence shot up after the equalizer, imagine if we’d gone up earlier.”
— A goal by Sydney Leroux in the 63rd minute earned the Boston Breakers a 1-1 tie with Seattle Reign FC. It was her eighth goal of the season, tying her for the league lead with FC KansasCity’s Lauren Cheney.
