U.S. Soccer has named former national team captain Claudio Reyna as its youth technical director, a new position. He will be formally introduced onWednesday.
Reyna made 112 international appearances for the USA and played at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 World Cups. He was selected to the 1994 team but was injured shortly before the startof the tournament and did not play.
Reyna spent most of his career in Europe — Bayer Leverkusen (1994-97), Wolfsburg (1997-99), Glasgow Rangers (1999-01), Sunderland (2001-03) andManchester City (2003-07) — before returning to play in MLS with the New York Red Bulls (2007-08).
