Four MLS players — Jose Guillermo Ortiz (D.C. United), David Guzman (Portland), Francisco Calvo and Johan Venegas (both Minnesota United) — were included in CostaRica’s roster for the Central American Cup that begins Jan. 13 in Panama.

MLS players are represented on three other teams: El Salvador (San Jose’s Darwin Ceren), Honduras(Houston’s Romell Quioto and Alberth Elis) and Panama (San Jose’s Anibal Godoy).

The tournament was reduced from seven to six teams following the FIFA-imposedsuspension of Guatemala. The top four teams advance automatically to the 2017 Gold Cup. The fifth-place team will meet the winner of the Caribbean playoffs taking place this week.
