As if his training stint with Glasgow Celtic hadn’t been contentious enough, Toronto FC attacker Dwayne De Rosario has not cast his boyhood home ofScarborough, Ont., in a flattering light during an interview.
His parents moved to Canada from Georgetown, Guyana, before he was born and while they and his two older brothershelped keep him in line, he tells stories of crime and danger all around him. While De Ro has spoken of his tough neighborhood before, he also compares Scarborough to the notorious South Centralregion of Los Angeles. “I didn’t stick around to see if people were deadwhen they were shot, but I’ve been at places where suddenly there’s stuff being shot up and you’re diving over pool tables,” he said. “That’s as scary a situation as you can imagine.”
DeRosario arrived in Glasgow a week ago for a training visit that TFC and MLS officials have said didn’t receive authorization and clearance. Celtic has signed FreddieLjungberg, whose MLS contract expired last month after he finished the season with Chicago following a midseason move from Seattle.
