[MLS TRANSACTIONS] To revive a career sidetracked by injuries, former U.S. youth international Conor Doyle has beenassigned to D.C. United via a weighted lottery conducted Thursday.
Doyle, 21, has been loaned to MLS by Derby County, for which he has played 23 games since 2010. Ankle and hamstringinjuries have hampered his progress at Derby, which plays in the League Championship, the second level of pro soccer in England.
The native of McKinney, Texas, went on trial with Derbyafter enrolling at but not playing for Creighton. He has represented the U.S. at the U-20 and U-23 and also played one U-20 friendly for Ireland.
“Conor is another quality youngtalent who has advanced international soccer experience for his age,” said D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper in a statement announcing the deal.“This loan will allow us to take a close look at him with an eye on the future. We look forward to Conor’s arrival in D.C. and to integrating him among our strong core group ofup-and-coming players.”
Doyle (6-foot-2, 172 pounds) will be eligible to play for D.C. when his international transfer certificate is received at MLS headquarters. He hasplayed at forward for most of his pro career though Derby occasionally used him in midfield.
