FIFA ethics judge Joachim Eckert on Monday formally opened cases against FIFA president Sepp Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini for alleged financial wrongdoing. Next,both Blatter and Platini, who are each serving 90-day suspensions pending Eckert’s ruling, will be allowed to submit their positions including any evidence with regard to the final reports ofthe investigatory chamber. They can also request hearings, which would be scheduled in December. The pair faces individual bans of several years; any sanctions handed down can be appealed to FIFA andultimately, the European Union’s Court of Arbitration for Sport.
