[TEXAS WOMEN] Redshirt freshman Leah Fortune will miss the rest of the Texas season after being called up to theBrazilian national team for the squad’s training camp and qualifying matches for the 2011 Women’s World Cup.

Fortune, who is no longer enrolled at Texas, is the youngest player called upto the Brazil camp that begins Monday.
 
“We’re extremely excited for Leah. Her dream has always been to represent Brazil in the World Cup and Olympics,” Texas coach Chris Petrucelli said. “This is her opportunity to show she belongs on that level. We will be her biggest fans when she’s playing for Brazil. We appreciate hercontributions both on and off the field at Texas. Our program is better because of Leah’s presence in our team. Her impact will be felt by her Texas teammates for years to come. We wish her luckknowing that she has a place for the Texas Longhorns in her heart.”
 
Fortune, who played for Brazil in the last two Under-20 Women’s World Cups under the name of Leah, was bornin Brazil and grew up in the Chicago area, where she played for Eclipse Select.

Fortune, whose father Hudson played for Indiana University andprofessionally in the United States, played in 13 games for Texas this season, totaling four goals and four assists for 12 points.

She missed all but three games in 2009 due to an ankleinjury for which she received a medical redshirt waiver.
