The weekend for Americans abroad delivered a wild ride with plenty of positive performances from top U.S. players — and from some aiming to join the USMNT player pool. Some American players struggled, but the overall signs point to a promising start for Americans in Europe as 2025 kicks into gear.

Sargent’s two goals lift Norwich

Josh Sargent scored two goals for Norwich in a 5-1 rout over Swansea City. The 24-year-old has scored plenty of goals over the years but this game carried significant weight. It marked his first goals since Oct. 5 following a groin injury that required surgery. He now has six goals in the 2024-25 season.

Sargent needs to begin a long process where he puts distance between him and a long list of injuries that have either sidelined him or limited his effectiveness. He ended up going 65 minutes in an impactful performance. Although he didn’t get on the ball a ton, he proved dangerous whenever he did.

Sargent has cemented his place as a Carrow Road favorite: the St. Louis native now has 17 goals in his last 20 Championship games at Norwich’s home stadium.

Norwich finished the weekend in 11th place, five points outside the promotion playoff zone.

From the USMNT perspective, his return comes at a good time because for the last several months, only Ricardo Pepi has been healthy and in-form among the usual forward contingent.
